John Birtwell
Peacefully at his home with his son and daughter by his side on 19th January 2021 John aged 71 years of Clayton-le-Moors. The devoted husband of the late Christine Anne, loving and much loved dad of Catherine and Andrew, father-in-law of Solomon and Natasha, cherished ‘pops’ of Kate, Harry, Eva and Jack, dear brother of Elaine and a much loved relative and friend to many.
During his working life John was a well respected teacher by both fellow teachers and pupils at Haslingden High School. Following his early retirement John continued to work in the art gallery and garden centre. John had many hobbies including wood carving which he could spend many happy hours in his workshop creating his latest masterpiece and many family members and friends have been gifted his creations over the years. He loved the outdoors and always looked forward to getting out in to the open air and countryside with his companion Millie the Cocker Spaniel. Most of all John was a devoted family man and proud grandad who devoted much of his time to the care of his grandchildren.

Catherine & Andrew, so sorry to hear about your Dad. I have a lot fond memories especially of him giving me advice after I flunked my A levels. We’d have lots of talks during your piano lessons band he gave me lots of great life advice. Both Christine and John were great and it was lovely to know them as a kid and an adult. Love, Julian.
