Joan Bartram
Joan passed away peacefully on 13th August 2022 in hospital, aged 90 years, of Great Harwood. The dearly beloved wife of the late Alan, much loved mum of Ian and Elaine , loving Grandma Joan to Laura, John, Chris and Vicky, Great Grandma Joan to Tyler, Tamzin, Leo, Jake, Jenson & Baby Ronnie and honorary auntie to Shirley, Steven and Duncan Jones and Melissa and Robert ad dear sister-in-law of Ruth.
Joan lived a Christian life devoted to her church, St Bartholomew’s, Great Harwood. She was a huge part of church life and in her retirement delivered communion in the hospital. Joan truly believed in the circle of care – that you couldn’t receive love and kindness without giving the back in full measure. She loved to be useful and would be the first to help anyone. She was gifted with a most generous heart. In her working life, Joan ran a fruit and veg shop in Bold Street when she was first married and then worked at Timpson Shoes in Accrington for many years before working in foot care for home until her retirement. She loved her home and was so house proud and liked to watch a good hospital drama on TV – Joan would worry about the people on the program even though they were just actors. In later years Joan discovered a love of cruising with daughter Elaine, Mary Baron and daughter in law Julie. Joan will be remembered for her inspirational devotion to her family and her absolute care for everyone. She was well known and popular – a lovely lady.

The only thing I can add to all the wonderful comments about this lovely lady is about her funeral yesterday. The church was absolutely packed with Joans friends and neighbours which speaks volumes about how loved and respected she was by all who knew her. I for one am proud to have known her and been a friend. I have many happy memories of doing church flowers together and Joan always being concerned about my arthritic pains and never about herself. Rest in Peace lovely lady. ???? xx |

I cannot add much more to what has already been said in the obituary above. I remember her giving my mother in law, Vera, wonderful foot care. Vera really looked forward to her visits. When I had surgery for bowel cancer Joan never failed to call each week to ask how I was. She cared very much for others before herself. God Bless you Joan….you will genuinely be greatly missed. |

Sending love to all the family. Losing this extraordinary, beautiful lady is heartbreaking. Joan was so independent, funny and kind with a huge personality, she was the life and soul of any room let alone party. Joan was so very precious and had the biggest heart, there are just not enough words to describe how amazing this lady was. I will love you always and think of you every day. I am going to go to Costa and sit in ‘our seat’ one last time. Goodnight, God bless Joanie ???? xxxx. |

Joan Bartram. Joan was very special person. One of the nicest and caring persons I’ve ever known. She was a true Christian and devoted to her church family. I remember when my husband was terminally ill with cancer, Joan coming and giving him communion… he thought he was having the last rites. Joan and I became good friends after doing Tea & Chat together in Churchfield House and then at her home. Joan was loved by everyone and will always have a special place in my heart. My deepest sympathy goes out to her family and friends, may Joan rest in peace❤❤ |
