Jean Chambers

Former Teacher
Peacefully on 18th August 2018, Jean aged 82 years of Helmshore. The devoted and much loved wife of the late Leslie, loving mum of Christopher and Philip, dear mother-in-law of Helen and Amparo, cherished gran of Paul, Anna and Mark.
Born and raised in Blackburn, Jean went to Saffron Walden College where she qualified as a primary school teacher. She worked in schools in London and Manchester, where for many years she was the well respected Head of Infants at Beth David Jewish Day Primary School. She also devoted herself to the role of a minister’s wife, supporting her husband, Leslie in his ministry in the New Jerusalem Church; as he took a service, she would be playing the organ. Many in the congregation would look to Jean, knowing they would find friendship, wise advice and compassion. She was also prominent in the national church organisation, serving as the highly regarded leader of a number of councils. Jean was devoted to her family, supporting her children and grandchildren in countless ways. In what little spare time she had, she loved reading and watching television, particularly when it was Wimbledon. She will be remembered for her sense of humour and will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.
Family flowers only please. Donations are being received in memory of Jean on behalf of the Camphill Village Trust.
