James Julian Bann ‘Julian’
JAMES JULIAN BANN ‘JULIAN’
Beloved son of the late James and Elizabeth, dear brother of Susan and Janette; brother-in-law; uncle, and great uncle.
Julian was born in 1952 in Bramley Meade Maternity Home, Whalley, and attended Hyndburn Park School, followed by The Hollins School in Accrington.
Leaving school in 1968, Julian started a 4 year Apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering with Rothwell & Co in Church, attending Accrington & Rossendale College where he gained credits and distinctions in his Engineering City and Guilds. His first job after completing his apprenticeship was with Stanworth Engineering in Burnley, involved in manufacturing aircraft parts. He had always been interested in aircraft, and as a boy his spending money had been used on Airfix model kits, and Aircraft magazines.
In 1973 he left Accrington to work for Metalvaerk El-Tin in Denmark, later spending some time travelling, before returning home to work in local engineering companies. Never marrying, Julian lived with his parents until their passing, but as he had friends with children he spent time with them, becoming Uncle Jim, or Jimmy to several.
In January 2000, whilst working at Tufting and Processing Machinery in Oswaldtwistle, he was injured as a result of an accident, but thankfully his co-workers saved him from worse. The local Emergency Services all played their parts, but the surgeons at Withington Hospital were truly amazing in what they achieved.
Best described as an independent thinker, and “his own man”, Julian loved listening to a wide range of music styles, he also liked to read, whether fiction or non-fiction, and socialising with friends. Julian was as happy in his own company as much as with friends and family, the latter of who could find him to be “a man of few words”.
Donations in Julian’s memory, if wished, can be made to any charity of choice.
