James Francis Devlin – Jim

Of your charity, please pray for the repose of the soul of Jim who passed away, suddenly but peacefully, in a private care home, aged 79 years and of Oswaldtwistle. ‘Requiescat in Pace’. The dearly beloved husband of Monica, much loved dad of Julie, Chris, Marie and Caroline, dear father in law of Craig, Adelle and Jon, loving grandad of Sadie, Katie, Chris, Daniel, Tom, Ellie, Ewan, James, Isabel, Ruby, Hannah and Charlie, loving great grandad of Amy, also a much loved brother, brother in law and uncle.

Jim spent his working life as a civil engineering contractor working alongside his son Chris at J & C Devlin Ltd. Jim was a great worker – practical, down to earth and had an abundance of common sense and a determination to always do his best. Being brought up on the family farm in Clonmany, County Donegal, Jim always retained a great love of the outdoors and kept hens and sheep. He also loved gardening. At his happiest socialising over a pint, Jim thoroughly enjoyed being in company. Following retirement, Jim and Monica were able to indulge their shared loved of travelling and had wonderful holidays to China, New Zealand and Canada as well as cruises and trips all around Europe. Jim was always happy with his lot and was naturally funny. He could sum you up in a second. With that twinkle never far from his eye, he would mischievously teach the grandchildren naughty rhymes. Jim will be remembered for being a devoted family man and a generous and kind gentleman with a great joie de vivre.

So glad to have met Jim & Monica on our trip to New Zealand. We have treasured memories of our times together on days out at the races, mini breaks away, when Jim would joke about his chickens missing him talk to them and stop laying. So sad those memories were lost to him towards the end, but with us they will live on. Rest in peace Jim.:
