James Alan Taylor (Alan)

Peacefully passed away at his home at Reeds Holme on 12th February 2024 aged 87 years. Husband of the late Jane and the late Maureen, a loving father to Carol and Liz, a dear father-in-law to Gary, a cherished grandad to Stevie, Andy, Tony, and Leanne, and a much loved great-grandad. He was also a dear relative and friend to many. Alan also leaves behind his much-adored and loyal companion, ‘Betsy’ the border collie.

Born and raised in Rossendale, Alan spent his entire life in the area. He began his career at the Rossendale Packing Case Company in Waterfoot before proudly serving in the RAF during his National Service making many friends .

Following his service, Alan pursued a career as an apprentice mechanic at Lords Garage, leading to the purchase of Warth Service Station at Warth Bridge, where he initially specialised in the sale of second-hand Post Office vans. As the business flourished and out-grew other locations in both the Waterfoot and Rawtenstall areas, eventually settling at it’s current location at Rossford House, Rawtenstall solidifying its reputation as a respected Ford Dealer in the area.

In addition to his successful ventures in the motor industry, Alan also took pride in the purchase of Horncliffe Mansion in 1995 which he and his late wife, Jane, converted into a luxurious hotel and wedding venue.

Alan was a character known for his straightforwardness—he called a spade a spade. Throughout the years, he embarked on numerous wonderful holidays worldwide, savouring well-earned rest and relaxation. Whether indulging in his favourite tipple or enjoying simple outings, Alan often ventured out in his car, always accompanied by his faithful companion, “Betsy.” His candid nature and zest for life left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to have known him.

May Alan’s legacy of hard work, and his zest for life continue to inspire those who had the privilege of sharing in his journey.
