Hilda Bamber

On 27th July 2023, suddenly at her home, Hilda, aged 81 years of Oswaldtwistle. The dearly beloved wife of the late Colin, much loved sister of John, loved sister in law of Jean, loving auntie of the late Jane, and cherished great auntie of Lucy and Ben.

Hilda spent her working life as a Design Reproducer working firstly at Broad Oak and then Heaton Mills in Manchester. She also worked from home for a time before her retirement. Hilda was a wonderful character, loved by all. Always with a cigarette in hand, Hilda puffed away to her heart’s content. She and Colin enjoyed trips out in the car, spending a day at the coast or over the border to Yorkshire. They also enjoyed their annual sightseeing trip to London. Home was Hilda’s happy place and in her younger years  had been a keen gardener. She always had the TV on its loudest volume and had also been an avid reader – she was the longest standing member at Clayton-le-Moors library. Hilda adored the songs of Jack Jones and had seen him countless times when he toured the UK, never missing a concert.  A nature and animal lover, Hilda loved each of her cats with all her heart – Muffin, Brandy and then Lulu. She will be remembered fondly and with love.

Remembering a very dear friend who will be sadly missed.
Louise and Helen (née Thurman)
We are very sorry that we are unable to be there due to being on holiday. We have very fond childhood memories of Auntie Hilda and Uncle Colin with our Mum and Dad, in particular, Boxing Day and turkey sandwiches! Auntie Hilda was one of Mum’s best friends and they would often put the world to right over a brew. We send our heartfelt condolences to all the family, we will miss her xx
