Harold Jones

On 27th October 2022, peacefully at his home in Clayton-le-Moors, surrounded by his loving family, Harold, aged 88 years – now re-united with his beloved wife, Annie. Harold was a devoted husband, loving dad of Derek and Jennifer, dear father-in-law of Tracy and Jay, wonderful and cherished grandad of Louise, Sarah, Alistair and Hannah and great grandad of Isabelle, Matilda, Alice, and Emily. Harold was also a dearly loved brother, brother-in-law, and uncle. Dearly loved, he will be sadly missed.

Harold spent his early working life as spinner in a cotton mill and then on a farm where shepherding was one of his roles. However, most of his working life was as a diesel fitter for Vibroplant, where Harold became a manager. He then went on to have his own businesses. Harold loved tinkering with all engines and could turn his hand to anything, spending many a happy hour in his garage. He was also a keen gardener. During his National Service, Harold became a champion boxer in the army, winning many matches. He earned himself the nickname of Jake after the famous boxer Jake LaMotta. Harold was so revered for his boxing that he was given his own chauffeur whilst stationed in Malaysia. Harold loved sport, especially football, cricket and, of course, boxing. Harold’s family were originally from Goodshaw Fold and Harold was very well known in the Rossendale Valley. He was a lovely, kind and gentle man, absolutely devoted to his family.
