Gillian Young – Nee Lovegrove

On 26th September 2020 peacefully at her home, Gillian, aged 78 years of Great Harwood, formerly of Pontypridd, South Wales. The dearly loved wife of the late Alf and loving partner of Dave, much loved mum of Carlton and Victoria, dear mother in law of Alison and Nigel and loving grandma of Chelsea, Jessica and Tyler-John.

Gillian was born in Pontypridd, South Wales and always remained true to her Welsh roots. She was always rather pleased that she went to school with Tom Jones. Gillian met her first husband Alf whilst she was a nurse and combining their love of Girl Guides and Scouts, both Gillian and Alf became very dedicated to their work with the Scout Association. This brought them to live in Great Harwood, putting Bowley Scout Camp on the map. Gillian was passionate and dynamic and had a great capacity for getting things done. She also worked as a doctors receptionist at Great Harwood Health Centre, becoming the practice manager. In her spare time she was a keen dog breeder and was well known and respected in the dog world especially as a breed judge at many shows including Crufts. Becoming a widow, Gillian later met Dave through her dog walking routine and their friendship blossomed. Together they shared a great love of their dogs and enjoyed holidays touring in their motorhome all over Britain, especially back to her beloved Wales. She also enjoyed digital photography, watercolour painting and music. Gillian was the proudest grandma there ever was and she adored her family, of whom she was always so proud.
