Eric Calvert

On 6th January, 2024 Eric passed peacefully away in hospital with Jackie by his side, aged 92 years of Huncoat. The beloved husband of Jackie, much loved dad of Lee and Tony, also a dear father in law, grandad and great grandad.

Eric trained as a plasterer and tiler working for Blackburn Council before moving to Hyndburn Council working in the Management Services Department and it was here that he met Jackie. Outside of work, Eric was an ardent golfer, boasting an impressive 60-year membership at Accrington Golf Club. Remarkably, he continued to play the sport well into his 90s. Together Eric and Jackie shared a deep love for the Lake District, spending numerous joyful holidays at their static caravan in Penrith. Eric loved the beauty of the outdoors, indulging in extensive fell walks, as well a lots of walking with their dog. Beyond his passion for golf and nature, Eric was an avid reader of western books and a fan of classic westerns on TV, he also had a keen interest in biographies. Eric was a great character—easygoing, laid back, and possessed a wonderful sense of humour. He was never one to mince words, always speaking his mind with authenticity. In later life, Eric found a new layer of  joy in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They brought him so much happiness adding depth and warmth to his days. Eric will be remembered for his enduring love of golf, his appreciation of the great outdoors, and his deep love for his family. May he rest in peace.
