Dorothy May Duckworth

On 5th January 2024, peacefully following a long illness, surrounded by her loving family, Dorothy aged 89¾, of Mellor. The dearly loved wife of the late Eric, much loved and loving mum of Anne, Pete and Jayne, much loved mother in law of Tony, Elaine and John, loving grandma of Claire and Adam and great grandma of Lyra, loving sister of Jenny and brother in law John and loved auntie of Mel and great auntie of Dougie.

Dorothy was a third generation baker, continuing with the family tradition. She worked at Clarke’s Bakers and then Kenyons where her talents and expertise shone for many years. Dorothy then worked at Revidge Fold Bakery until her well deserved retirement. Dorothy was at her happiest with her hands in flour and was a most talented, artistic and creative foodie, winning awards for her beautiful wedding and celebration cakes – edible masterpieces. Dorothy had also been president of the Blackburn Branch of The Master Bakers Association. Her strict work ethic and amazing energy for getting things done were inspirational. Her creamy custards were simply the best, and if the children were ill, Dorothy’s creamy custards were the medicine that made them better. Dorothy had also been a keen and talented photographer and won many competitions for her photographs of all things nature and post boxes. She loved documentaries, architecture, nature programs and researching her family tree. A wonderful mum, grandma, great grandma and family lady, Dorothy basked in her family love and the enduring bonds cultivated within her family.

We only met Mrs Duckworth once when we bought our lovely home on Buncer Lane from her, but we remember her as a lovely lady who was kind and helpful. We have lived in the house for twenty years now. Rest in Peace Mrs Duckworth
