Dorothy Hacking ‘Dot’
Dot Peacefully passed away on 14th December 2023 at Hope House, aged 88 years of Oswaldtwistle. The devoted wife of the late Gordon, loving partner of Ray, loving and loved mum of Stephen and his wife Hayley, dear sister of Susan and Arlene and a respected relative and friend.
Dot spent her working life as a midwife, she was passionate about her work and devoted to those in her care, becoming a well known and loved face at Bramley Meade, Rough Lee and Accrington Victoria Hospital. She loved music and in her younger years, Dot loved to get out in to the open air for a brisk walk. She adored travel and over the years has visited many countries around the globe including India, Australia and much of Europe. She also always looked forward to trips to the South of England to visit her son who served with the Royal Navy and following his move to the Isle of Wight, Dot also loved to visit there spending time with her beloved son and daughter-in-law, Hayley. Following the devastating loss of her beloved husband Gordon in 1990 it took Dot some time to come to terms with not having him at her side, but she did find happiness and companionship when she met her partner Ray and together they were able to enjoy their senior years.
Family flowers only please, donations can be made in Dot’s memory on behalf of Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children. To make a donation please click the ‘Make A Donation’ button at the bottom of this page.

We loved dot my 2nd mum dearly so many happy memories with her. She was so brave and dignified right until the end. My dad Ray worshipped her and we were so happy he was at Hope house with her during her last free hours. I will miss you so much my gorgeous lady.

Dot we loved you so much, you was like a second mum to me, we had a wonderful closeness I’ll always treasure. You would say often how lucky you was to have us and your beautiful granddaughter as you referred to her as Molly in your life…We are the lucky ones to have had so much time with you. I’m so pleased my dad Ray was with you at Hope house when you passed, you always said that’s what you wanted. We will all miss you so much and live you forever. R.I.P my gorgeous lady. Kay (your adopted daughter) as you always called me ❤️❤️

So sad to hear of Dots passing ,she was a great friend of my mum Hazel, she was a kind loving lady who looked after me when I had my last son. I was a good friend of her sister Sue who lived in Preston. Over the years I have lost touch with Sue. Sending all my love to all her family.
