David John Carney

On 25th March 2023, peacefully in East Lancashire Hospice, David, aged 52 years of Clayton-le-Moors, formerly of Helmshore. The much loved and loving husband of Anna, devoted and kind dad to Lewis, dearly loved son of Norma and the late John, loving brother of Stephen and sister in law Michelle, loving uncle of Martha and much loved son in law of Pamela and Les.

David’s early school years were spent in Haslingden and Helmshore and he then attended St Theodore’s RC High School for boys in Burnley before moving to Lea Bank (part Accrington and Rossendale College) where he studied for a BTEC HND in Business and Finance.  During his school and college years, David earned beer money as a pot washer at The Duke of Wellington pub/restaurant on Grane Road in Haslingden, quickly progressing to waiting on, serving behind the bar and eventually becoming the assistant manager upon leaving college. He then moved to Primrose Wallcoverings for a short time before a change of career into the water hygiene industry.  He initially worked for APB Water Treatment with a move a few years later to Waterchem.  Via a series of company takeovers and his own hard work, David progressed to become Operations Manager of national company Integrated Water Services (IWS) where he remained an employee throughout his illness. It was during his time at Lea Bank that David met Anna.  They married in 1997 and three years later their son Lewis was born.  Together they were a loving and loved family, but for too short a time, as cancer is no respecter of age.  The twenty-five years they were married were years of joy and happiness in each other’s company.  Their social lives were busy and fulfilling and many good friends were made along the way.  No obituary of David’s would be complete without a mention of his love for sport – especially his avid support for Manchester United.  A passion he has passed on to his dear son, Lewis, who continues the family tradition.  David worked hard and played hard. He enjoyed holidays abroad, walking, dining out, relaxing watching TV, spending time with many of his friends in his local pub – The Hyndburn Bridge and occasionally meeting up with his friends from Helmshore in The Station pub.

Family flowers only please. Donations can be made in David’s memory to East Lancashire Hospice. To make a donation, please click the “Make A Donation” button at the bottom of this page or send to Champ Funeral Services. A donation box will also be available on the day of the funeral.

I still can not believe that Dave has passed away. He was very funny man he was dry and quick which made me chuckle no end, especially at Warner St. Some very funny tales were told in that office when Dave visited, usually at Anna expense. ???? A top bloke, taken from his beautiful family far too soon. Sending all our love to Anna, LJ and all of Daves Family and friends. Xxxx

It is with great sadness that we heard this devastating news. Me and my son Joel came to visit Dave and Anna in July and we had no idea that it was going to be the last time we ever saw each other. My biggest regret is not telling Dave that he brought so much joy and laughter into our lives. Dave always had a fabulous sense of humour –  his quick dry humour had many of us laughing so loud. Dave was kind, considerate and such a wonderful caring husband and father. We have all been extremely priviliged to know Dave. The memories of Dave will continue to live on in those who were blessed to have known him. Anna and Lewis and David’s family and friends you are in our thoughts and prayers . Rest in peace our lovely friend Dave , till we meet again love from , Lisa, Russ, Joel and Callum xxxx:

You will always be in our hearts and minds as we fondly remember the many holidays, laughs and fun we’ve shared along the way. We will miss your wicked sense of humour, the informed discussions and our special ‘walk walks’ together. A light has been extinguished in our lives, but know you will shine bright in heaven. With love from us both.
