David Edward Cropper

Peacefully in hospital on 16th September 2021 surrounded by his loving family, David aged 76 years of Mellor Brook and formerly of Wilpshire. The devoted and much loved Husband of Marie, loving and loved Dad of Sharon, Michelle and David, father-in-law of Mark, Rob and Dawn, cherished Grandad of Lee, Dion, Carla, Claudia, Mia, Olivia and Joseph, dear brother of John and George and also a dearly loved relative and good friend to many.

Born and raised in Rising Bridge David began his career as a butcher serving as an apprentice with Dick Sutton. He then set up a partnership with his brother George and G & D Cropper’s Butchers was born. He became a well known and loved face within the local community, David always looked forward to catching up with his steady stream of loyal customers. Following his years on Accrington Market, David embarked on his journey as a landscape gardener trading as D C Landscapes serving Wilpshire and the surrounding areas, David was always a hardworking gentleman who was respected by all who knew him, he was as fit as a fiddle and it was often said that he could carryout the work of two men. David loved to socialise and each Friday evening he would look forward to meeting up with good friends for a pint or two and a catch up. With his young at heart and outgoing personality, David was loved by people of all ages and could chat to anyone about anything, bridging generation gaps with ease and he was lovingly known as ‘Cropper’ by the locals in the pubs. He was the master of the pool table and loved to challenge anyone to a game. Always one to like routine, David would enjoy a meal out each Saturday with his wife Marie at the Ribchester Arms and he would enjoy his fish soup followed by his favourite Rib-Eye Steak. Holidays were always looked forward to and David loved nothing more than relaxing in the warm sunshine whilst topping up his year round suntan. Most of all David was a devoted family man, he loved nothing more than gathering the family together for a celebration and wherever he was, David was always the life and soul of the party and always the last to leave.

He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
