Colin Slater

Peacefully in hospital on 29th August 2020, Colin aged 83 years of Clayton-le-Moors. The devoted and much loved husband of Gladys, loving dad of Justin, dear-brother-in-law of Tom and Joe, brother to the late Lily and the late Nellie, also a dear and beloved uncle and friend to many.

Colin was a devoted family man who loved being in the company of his nearest and dearest. He spent his working life as a lorry driver for A.M Bracewell Transport for fifty two years. Colin loved his work and always looked forward to getting out on the open road, he made many friends throughout his years at Bracewell’s.
At home Colin loved to spend time in his garden and at his allotment tending to his perfectly growing fruit and vegetables which all the family would look forward to at harvest time. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed walking in the open air with his beloved companion dog. His Garden shed was a favourite place of Colin’s and he could often be found there making sure everything was in its place.

Colin was a true gentleman who will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Dear Auntie Gladys and Justin, We a thinking of you at this sad time, I have many fond memories of Uncle Colin when we came back to England to visit you all. I especially remember uncle Colin always teasing me when i was little and pretending to wash my mouth out with soap and he couldn’t stop laughing. Sending you both all our love and big hugs..

Robin Bracewell

The Bracewell family would like to pay tribute to Colin’s long serving & loyal commitment to our family’s haulage business. Over 60 years working with 3 generations; always cheerful and enthusiastic in his attitude – something that will never happen again. Happily, we were able to see him enjoy his well deserved retirement & channel the same enthusiasm into his family and allotment.
