Carol Nellany

Peacefully in hospital on 16th November 2023. Aged 76. A loving wife to the late Peter. Proud mum to Bernadette, Derek, Joanne, the late Paul and Michelle. Devoted grandma to Rachael, Ava, Katie, Olivia, Aaron, Thomas, Charlie, Harrison, Darcie, Nikita, Sasha and Jack. Step grandma to Josh and Rhea and lots of great-grandchildren too. Let’s not forget Mitzie, her King Charles spaniel who was her devoted canine companion after she lost Peter.

Throughout her diverse career, Carol navigated through various jobs with dedication and a strong work ethic. From her early days in a shoe factory in Rishton to her time at the iconic OXO company, and her service at the Towngate Café in Harwood. Carol’s commitment and enthusiasm left a lasting impact on those around her. Later in life, she found fulfilment and purpose as a caretaker at St Wulstan’s Gt. Harwood, where her nurturing qualities extended far beyond her family to the pupils she cared for.

Carol’s zest for life was beautifully reflected in her love for bus trips, bingo and domino nights, and some unforgettable holidays. Christine Robinson was a shadow constantly by her side at bingo.

She cherished the memories of her trips to Greece with the late Peter, where they shared moments filled with laughter and love. She loved and adored holidays abroad with her late dear friend Kath Monk.

Equally dear to her heart were her two very best friends Patsy and Eileen, she formed unbreakable bonds with these ladies, friends for almost fifty years ago. These ladies have lived, laughed, and cried together over the years.

Among the many titles she held, Carol was most recently affectionately known as “Madge from Benidorm” a nickname given to her by Darcie after Carol’s newfound freedom and adventure riding an electric disability scooter, complete with cigarette in hand. Her grandchildren also fondly referred to her as “Grandma Chocolate” because of her sweet tradition of giving them bars of chocolate whenever they visited. This simple yet heartfelt gesture became a cherished tradition, creating sweet memories that will endure in the hearts of her loved ones.

Carol had a fantastic sense of humour and a great wit, even when she was ill in hospital.

As we reflect on Carol’s life, let us carry forward the joy in these simple pleasures and the love she showered on her family and friends. Leaving behind a legacy of warmth and beautiful memories for so many. Carol will be missed by all her family and friends. May you rest in peace Carol.
