Carol Aspin

Carol Aspin 1944 – 2021

On Friday 29th January 2021, Carol aged 76 of Great Harwood (formerly of Accrington) peacefully passed away at home, with her loving husband and two daughters by her side.

Carol was the dearly loved wife of Mervyn for 58 years.  Mum to Lynn and Maxine, Mother-in-law to Graham and Andrew.  Sister to John and the late Ronnie.  Nanna to Lee, Steven and the late Matthew, Nikki and Jenni.  Great Nan to Kayleigh, Lucy, Ally, Bella, Lona and Luca, and cherished Auntie and friend to many.

Carol was born in Accrington and she started her working life at Warburton’s Cotton Mill in 1959 at the age of 15.  She met Mervyn in 1960 and they married in March 1962.  Lynn was born the following February and Maxine was born twelve years later.

Mervyn and Carol took over the Cross Axes Pub in 1976 where they spent twenty-two happy years working together.  Carol was known for her caring ways, amazing culinary skills and her wonderful sense of humour.

After leaving the Cross Axes in 1998, Carol continued to work with Mervyn when he got a job as a bus driver for LCC day care.  She worked right by his side as a passenger assistant for the next fifteen years.

Carol retired through ill health in 2014 but continued to bake her amazing cakes she was famous for!  She was surrounded by her close, loving family right to the end.
