Memorial Book
Peacefully in hospital on 24th Septemeber 2025 surrounded by his wife and children, Bernard aged 79 years of Rishton. The devoted and much loved husband, soul mate and best friend of Anthea, loving and proud dad of Jayne and Peter, dear father-in-law of Jonathan and a treasured uncle, relative and friend.
Bernard began his working life as an apprentice TV Engineer with Romers of Rishton, serving his time there before continuing in the role for the rest of his career. It was during a works’ annual outing to Llandudno that he met the love of his life, Anthea, at the top of the Great Orme Railway. Their connection was instant, and it led to marriage in 1968. From that day, Llandudno always held a special place in their hearts.
Together, Bernard and Anthea enjoyed ballroom dancing at the Arcadian Ballroom in Accrington, where they spent many wonderful evenings on the dance floor and made lifelong friends. He was also a member of Hyndburn Leisure, where he formed close friendships and was always ready for a friendly chat and coffee after his exercise.
Holidays were another great joy, whether in St Ives, Llandudno, Fleetwood, Lanzarote, or Cyprus. Each trip was filled with special memories, and Bernard always had one tradition, wherever he went, he had to return home with a souvenir pen. Evenings away were often rounded off with a G & T on the balcony, watching the sun set, a simple pleasure he cherished. Bernard was also an avid reader, happiest when lost in the pages of his latest book.
Above all, Bernard was a devoted family man. He loved nothing more than gathering everyone around the table to share good food and conversation. Christmas was especially meaningful to him, as he proudly took charge of preparing the Christmas pudding, a tradition he held dear.
Bernard was a true gentleman, loved by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He will be deeply missed but always fondly remembered.
Family flowers only please. Donations are being gratefully received in Bernard’s memory on behalf of the British Heart Foundation.
