At his home on 20th November 2025, Barrie aged 79 years of Clitheroe. The much loved and proud dad of Andrew, Steven, Matthew, Paul, Nic, Luke and Molly, a dear father-in-law, a cherished grandad, dear brother to Terry and his wife Margaret and also a respected relative and good friend to many.
Former bricklayer, Barrie began his working life serving his time as an apprentice for Spencer’s of Accrington, he later went on to be self employed working all over on various building projects, his work even took him to Australia and New Zealand where he lived worked for several years. Barrie enjoyed his work and was passionate about passing on his vast knowledge of the trade to others and this led him to taking up a tutor position at Blackburn college, helping aspiring bricklayers learn the trade. Barrie loved the outdoors and walking, always keeping himself fit and active, he had vast knowledge of the Ribble Valley and the surrounding countryside and was in his element when he secured work as a walk leader for Ribble Valley Borough Council’s Stepping Out project, working well past his retirement age, he was also a member of the Ramble & Roast group, who would meet on Sunday’s to enjoy a walk followed by a big Sunday roast at venues such as Spread Eagle and Aspinall Arms.
Barrie enjoyed his holidays from sun soaked relaxation abroad to touring the UK in his beloved caravan, holidays were always family time, filled with fun and adventure. He was the most doting family man, who was so proud of his children and grandchildren and Barrie always looked forward to hearing bout their achievements and adventures in life.
Barrie was loved and cherished by all who knew him and he will be greatly missed but fondly remembered.
