Anthony William Broadley – Tony

On 20th September, 2023 Tony, aged 70 years of Oswaldtwistle, passed away peacefully in hospital, with family and friends by his side. The dearly beloved husband of Rosie, much loved dad of Nicola, Emma and Adam, loving stepdad of Ryan and Gary, a much loved grandad, loving brother of Geoff, Janice, Tricia, John, Philip, Jacqui, Peter and Mandy, a much loved brother in law, uncle, relative and friend.

Tony did his apprenticeship as a butcher following his school years and joined the army in 1973, serving for 2 years as a gunner in the Royal Artillery, based in Lipstadt, Germany. These were happy days for Tony and he loved to reminisce about his time with the army. Tony then returned to his work as a butcher and always and ever remained a meat and two veg man. He loved to do all the cooking at home and, finishing work each day at 2.00pm, he always had dinner on the table for Rose and the children when they go home. He was a popular and well known gentleman in Oswaldtwistle, known as ‘Tony Butcher’ and he enjoyed his weekends socialising in the pubs on Union Road with his friends. He was a talented pool player and won so many matches, he often had several pints of beer paid on behind the bars. They were lucky to have had Tony on the pool team at The Black Dog. He loved music, and after a few pints loved to sing his favourite song, ‘Zoom’ on the karaoke with full actions and not a word missed. He was blessed with a happy, sunshine character and enjoyed the company of young people. Laid back, a man of few words, when he spoke, you listened. He liked his regular trips to the bookies to place a bet on the horses, having a few lucky wins – though he didn’t always tell Rose πŸ˜‰ Tony and Rose so loved their holidays to Turkey where Tony loved to investigate the area and visit any ruins. He was also adventurous with his food abroad. It was tragic when Tony was struck down with Encephalitis and the illness took over. Rose, together with her supportive and caring sons, looked after Tony, ensuring that he had the best care. The amazing staff at Voyage Care in Burnley, looked after Tony with such compassion and dedication. Tony was a truly lovely gentleman who was loved so deeply by Rose and his family.

Donations in lieu of flowers are gratefully being received in behalf of the Encephalitis Society. To make a donation please click the ‘Make A Donation’ button at the bottom of this page.
