Andrew Dickinson ‘Andy’

Peacefully with his wife at his side at East Lancashire Hospice on 25th November 2023, Andy aged 66 years of Clayton-le-Moors. The devoted and much loved husband of Adele, loving and loved father and father figure of David, Stephen and Joanne, cherished grandad of Lauren, Jasmin, Emma and Holly, dear brother of Julia, Maureen, Madeline, Coleen and Paddy and a well respected relative and friend to many.

Football mad, Andy was a devoted Accrington Stanley supporter and season ticket holder, he always looked forward to attending the matches to cheer on his team and then gather with his mates for a pint or two in the bar following the match. He spent his working life as a fabrication engineer working at Platt’s before moving to DP Structures, Nelson. With his keen eye and attention to detail, Andy was always well respected by his colleagues and over the years he has made many good friends. He loved the outdoors and he was at his happiest when out in the open air for a long walk with his beloved wife Adele and they always looked forward to escaping for a caravan holiday with trips to Wales and the Lake District and they enjoyed many wonderful family days out in St Anne’s. Andy loved music and was a social butterfly, he always looked forward to nights out and he had the most amazing memory and was a master of the pub quiz. He was a WW2 fanatic and could often be found reading his latest war book or watching war films, expanding his endless knowledge.

Family flowers only please. Donations are being gratefully received in memory of Andy on behalf of East Lancashire Hospice and Cancer Research UK. To make a donation please click the ‘Make A Donation button at the bottom of this page or send to the funeral home.

Andy is and will always be the best brother in law I will ever have.   It was a honour to include Andy into our extended Lofters family.  We are all devastated by the loss of such a wonderful person.  My lasting memories of Andy will be the times Jane and I spent with him and Adele in the garden in summer putting the world to right.  The times just before Christmas when Andy and Adele would visit us to exchange gifts.  We would end up in the conservatory with MC Andy taking over the DJ duties and introducing the kids to Northern Soul or some obscure tracks from the sixties or seventies.  We had such great fun. I will miss him and can’t imagine Adele without Andy her rock. Love from Andy’s extended family and brother in law Claud.

    Jane Lofters

Andy, my much loved brother- in- law, I’ve known you since I was 18 and you looked like Elton John. You have been such an important part of our lives and we always looked forward to spending time with you and Adele as we knew we would have a great time. Your encyclopaedic knowledge of all sorts of rubbish was hilarious and your DJing skills second to none.but most importantly you were the absolute best husband to Adele. The way you cared for her, David, Steven and Joanne was beautiful,  just like you. We will miss you beyond words, and love you forever.

Andy was such a happy joyful soul who always looked for the positive in life and made much use of his Dickinson laugh. If there were millions like him in the world it would be much nicer but sadly he’s a one off.

Andy I so looked forward to taking my seat next to you on Saturdays, you lit up so many wet cold afternoons with your football knowledge, I don’t think there was a player from any opposition player you didn’t know. When the game was that bad, we’d often get onto music, before you leapt out of your seat to cheer another Stanley goal. Andy its not the same without you there, so glad I sat next to you one day around 6 years ago, you knew everyone, I was privileged to have know you for a short time. Good night my friend.

    Carolyn
