Service Details:
Alvin's Funeral Service will be held at St Paul's Church, Plantation St, Accrington BB5 6RT followed by Committal at Accrington Crematorium.

Peacefully in his sleep, listening to his favourite classical music on 9th March 2025, Alvin aged 100 years of Accrington. The devoted and much loved husband of Joan, loved step-dad of John, Sandra, Maureen and Les, father of Stephanie, dear father-in-law of Louise and Debbie, a cherished grandad and great grandad, a treasured uncle, relative and good friend to many.

D-Day veteran Alvin served as a radar operator for the Royal Navy under Sir Peter Scott aboard HMSGB Grey Goose during World War II. He remained immensely proud of his service, often reminiscing about his time in the Navy. After the war, he built a successful career, working for Brooke Bond Oxo and Victoria Wines as a distinguished and reputable salesman, earning a strong reputation in his field. Born in Gillingham, Kent, Alvin was a true wordsmith—well-spoken, charismatic, and gifted with the art of conversation. He could strike up a discussion with anyone and made friends wherever he went. In 1981, after meeting the love of his life, Joan, he moved north and settled in Accrington, quickly becoming a familiar and well-liked figure in the community. He became an active member of St. Paul’s Church, joining both the choir and the Concorde Singers, as music was a lifelong passion. Classic FM was always playing in the background at home, filling his space with the melodies he loved. Alvin also had a love for travel, with Greece being his favourite destination. He cherished the warm, relaxed atmosphere and enjoyed indulging in the local cuisine. At home, he found joy in gardening, ensuring his outdoor space was always vibrant and bursting with colour throughout the seasons. Alvin lived a full and wonderful life, devoted to the things he loved. Respected by all who knew him, he will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.

Family flowers only, please but donations are being gratefully received in Alvin’s memory, on behalf of the Church & Oswaldtwistle Royal British Legion & St Paul’s Church. To make a donation please send to the funeral directors, a donation box will also be available at the service.
