Alan Jones

Peacefully in hospital surrounded by his loving family, Alan aged 86 years of Blackburn. The devoted and much loved husband of Joan, loving dad of Sandra, Ian and Karen, dear father-in-law of Stewart, Kathleen and Stuart, cherished grandad and great grandad, and a dear relative and friend to many.

After leaving school, Alan started an apprenticeship in joinery.  He worked for a short time at Ibbotsons and Clayton & Duckworth before taking his long term position at Star Paper Mill (Sappi UK) and working his way up to “Chief Joiner”. Not only was he good at his job, he thoroughly enjoyed it.

Alan liked to go walking in the UK, especially Wales, Scotland and the Lake district. He loved the scenery and always had his camera in hand. He enjoyed holidays both in the UK and abroad too. In his spare time, Alan enjoyed completing crosswords and soduko puzzles.  He enjoyed making and flying model aeroplanes and competed with his models for Lancashire at Witton Park.  He was also a former member of Hollins Grove snooker and chess teams, as well as being a semi-professional photographer and member of Blackburn Camera Club. In later life he was very interested in computers and spent a lot of time teaching himself how to program and understand the logics behind them as well as really enjoying playing adventure games.  He could basically turn his hand to anything and could always find the solutions.
