George's funeral service will be held at Accrington Crematorium, Burnley Road, Accrington BB5 6HA
George Thomas Spencer Gibson
Peacefully surrounded by his loving family at East Lancashire Hospice on 1st November 2021, George aged 78 years of Oswaldtwistle. The devoted and much loved husband of Susan, loving and loved dad of Mark and Vanessa, dear father-in-law of April, cherished grandad of George, Max and Grace, loved brother of Maureen, a respected uncle, relative and friend to many.
George spent his working life in the building trade, firstly serving his time as an apprentice joiner at Edmondson’s before embarking on career spanning over thirty years at John Laing’s working his way up to Construction Manager. George was always super proud of his work and over the years he has worked on many architectural feats including the Mormon Temple at Chorley, Old Trafford and Manchester City’s ground. No matter of his status at work, George always kept his feet firmly on the ground, earning the respect of those he worked with. He was an avid Burnley supporter and life long season ticket holder and always looked forward to attending match days, this was a passion that has been passed down through the family to his son Mark and grandsons George and Max. At home George loved to relax reading his latest books and often could be found completing his latest crossword puzzle. Following his retirement, George found a new passion for his garden and spent many happy hours ensuring his garden bloomed in full colour throughout the seasons. Holidays were always looked forward to, together with his wife Susan many happy times have been shared and many wonderful friendships formed and each year the couple would look forward to some rest and relaxation in the warm Italian sunshine.
Most of all George was a devoted family man who always looked forward to getting the family together and he was the most proud grandad.

| I worked with George in the mid 1980s at John Laing. He was one of the kindest, funny and skilled guys I ever met. George had an aura about him of authenticity with a welcoming and kind nature. I am so sad to hear of George’s passing. I worked with George on the Ancoat’s Health Centre which was part of the LIFT framework for Laing O’Rourke. I adored George. His personality was something special that you don’t often come across. We had many laughs together and I cheekily and affectionately used to refer to him as “Grandad George.” I was only 19 when I met him and he took me under his wing. He was such a kind soul and often spoke about his Sue and his children who it was obvious he adored. He will be sadly missed by everyone who met him. Sleep tight Grandad Gibbo xx
