William James Rainford – Bill

On 21st January 2021 peacefully in hospital, Bill, aged 90 years of Penwortham. The dearly beloved husband of Maureen, much loved dad of Karen and son in law David, loving grandad of Kaylie, Thomas and Conner and great grandad of Tiana, Laila, George and Fred.

Bill spent his working life at Leyland Motors as a tool maker, really enjoying his work, Bill made many friends there over the years. Bill loved people and being in company and would talk to anyone. At his happiest on his cruiser, they spent every holiday and weekend from Easter to October on the canal, making so many happy memories for Karen growing up. Bill and Maureen also loved travelling, cruising and their holidays in Benidorm. A keen train enthusiast, Bill was most proud of his Hornby train set. He was a devoted and loving family man who loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be remembered for being a very lovely, kind and gentle man.

We have known Bill since about 1977-78 always a pleasure to meet him and talk. To us he was Mr Lancaster Canal his knowledge of the canal and boating was phenomenal. It was always the highlight of our recent trips to see him and Maureen at the Savick Brook Locks. PS When I clean my heat plugs on my BMC 1.5 I will always think of BILL for he taught me about the use of a 5/16 drill to clean the carbon residue away.
