On 12th October 2026, peacefully at his home in Whalley, surrounded by his loving family, Jim, aged 75 years. The dearly loved and loving husband of Julie, much loved and cherished dad of Jamie, Jade and Amy, devoted grandad of Jaxson and Maggie, and a dear brother, brother-in-law, uncle and dear friend to many.
Jim was a lovely, laid-back character who took life as it came, he always knew his own mind and was never one to make a fuss. What you saw was what you got, and it was this easy going, genuine nature, together with his wonderful sense of humour, that made him such good company. He loved to tease and you always felt better after spending time with Jim.
Jim spent his working life as a painter and decorator. He was a familiar sight travelling around Lancashire in his van, complete with ladders, dust sheets and, more often than not, a cup of tea on the dashboard. He loved golf, enjoying many happy hours on the courses at Clitheroe and Stonyhurst. And Jim was also a passionate attendee at the Bookies in Clitheore where he loved placing his favourite round robin bets. The grandchildren actually thought their grandad worked there as he called it his office and they believed him as he went every day.
At home his shed was his little haven, where he could enjoy a cigarette, a cup of tea and listen for his favourite Radio 4. He loved music and would sing Van Morrison’s Brown Eyed Girl to his three Brown Eyed Girls, Julie, Jade and Amy. Jim adored his family and would pick the girls up for a night out at any hour of the day or night. He lived such a happy life and valued the company of his family and the lifelong friends he had known since his schooldays.
Although his health had become increasingly difficult, Jim faced his illness with the same quiet determination that had always been part of his character. He never lost his humour and was happiest at home, surrounded by everything and everyone he loved.
He lived life very much on his own terms, with humour, independence and an appreciation for the little things that made him happy. He leaves behind so many fond memories, a lifetime of laughter and a family who loved him dearly.
Donations in lieu of flowers are being received in memory of Jim on behalf of The British Heart Foundation and Carers Link Lancashire.
