Pamela Dorothy Wadsworth, known affectionately as Pam and formerly Birtwell, passed away peacefully in hospital on 8th August, aged 88 years. Pam was a much loved mother to Jane and Clare, mother-in-law to Derek, and cherished grandmother to James and Archie.
Born in Samlesbury, Pam attended primary school locally before going on to Casterton School in Kirkby Lonsdale. She later excelled in Institutional Management in Manchester, which led to a period working for the BBC in London. On returning to Blackburn Pam worked at English Electric. She married in 1965 and welcomed two baby girls in 1968. She lived in Whalley for 61 years.
Pam later trained as a secretary and worked briefly at Ribblesdale School before joining the office at Norden School, where she remained until her retirement.
Fiercely independent and determined, Pam had many interests and enjoyed sewing, the Mother’s Union and Trefoil Guild. She particularly treasured family holidays.
Even in later years, Pam was a familiar sight around Whalley with her four-wheeled walker, determined to maintain her independence and even driving until March of this year.
Pam will be remembered with great affection for her strength, independence, determination. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Donations are being gratefully received in Memory of Pam on behalf of Blood Cancer UK.
