Memorial Book
At the age of 101 years, Joan passed away peacefully, at her home in Read on the 14 April 2026, with her loving family by her side. She was the dearly beloved wife of the late Harry, devoted and much loved mum of Ann and Peter, dear mother-in-law to Lisa, much loved Gran to Harry and Maud and loved by Ann’s partner Malcolm.
Joan will be sadly missed and never forgotten
Joan was first and foremost a devoted family lady, supportive and encouraging. She was a wonderful homemaker and great cook and her potato pie was the tastiest. Peter always remembers his mum’s bacon and eggs each morning before leaving the house. Joan met Harry through her love of light opera, a passion they both shared which became a big part of their lives. Joan had served on the committee of Burnley Light Opera Society as well as serving as secretary for a time. When the children were older, Joan and a friend set up their own secretarial employment agency which they ran for a number of years. Happy holidays were spent by the coast. Joan loved the sea, especially the coastline of Devon. St John’s Church, Read was a large part of Joan’s life too, She lived by Christian values and was the loveliest, pure hearted kindest lady with a smile which lit up every room. She loved flowers too, and did the flower arranging at St John’s Church. It was a very proud moment for Joan when she gained her City & Guilds in flower arranging at the age of 70.
Joan was easy to love and she made each day that little bit brighter for everyone around her. A beautiful lady now re-united with her beloved Harry. May they rest in peace, perfect peace.
Family flowers only please, donations in memory of Joan are being gratefully received on behalf of St John’s Church, Read via the blue button donate to the left.
