Memorial Book

Held in the love of her husband Peter, family and friends, Barbara died peacefully on Sunday October 26th at Royal Blackburn Hospital.

Barbara was a true Lancastrian, hardworking, quick-witted, honest and independent, always ready to challenge injustice and with a heart that loved and served many. Born in Clayton le Moors she was a “Top ender” through and through. With her beloved family including sisters Maureen and Janet she became an active member of the St James Mission Church and spoke fondly of the concert nights, social activities and Whit parades. In later years All Saints would become her and Peter’s Church, a place of many fond memories.

Barbara started her working life in a few local factories, building a strong network of friends that she continued to see throughout her life. Following the birth of her beloved children, Kieran and the late Kerrie she was proud to buy their first family home in Clayton le Moors and particularly her little blue Mini. In the years ahead she would tease Peter that her greatest regret was that she married a “Bottom Ender”. Peter and Barbara met at Enfield Day Centre and married in August 1988. Barbara would go on to be a service manager for the National Autistic Society, proud to meet Princess Anne when they opened a service on Atlas Street, going on to gain her Degree in Education.

At her heart was her family, grandchildren Robert, Niamh, Callum, Liam and Tara, friends and home, Barbara was happiest when everyone was together, the beaches of Cornwall would be the focal point of annual holidays. With her skilled hands there was little she couldn’t do, from cross stitch to laying a patio, Barbara met life with love, energy and passion.

Family flowers only please. Donations are being gratefully received in Barbara’s memory on behalf of All Saint’s Church.
