Memorial Book
Peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, Philomena (Phil) of Great Harwood passed away at Royal Blackburn Hospital, aged 81 years.
Phil was a cherished wife to her devoted husband of 61 years Harry, a loving mum to Caroline and Catherine, mother-in-law to Gary and Chris, proud grandma to Olivia and Sophie and little great granddaughter Lily. Special mention is also given to Olivia’s husband Gareth and Ollie and Josh and their families.
Originally from County Cork, Ireland, Phil moved to Accrington with her family, including her much loved late sister Eileen, when she was teenager and made it her home.
She met the love of her life Harry, at just 17 years old while working at Rothwell’s Engineering Company and it was at the company Christmas party that they had their first dance and fell in love, marrying within two years, building a home and family together.
Phil’s life was one of compassion, dedication, and quiet strength so it was inevitable that she would find her true calling in nursing. She trained at Burnley General Hospital where her excellence earned her the Nurse of the Year award and went on to become a district nurse in the Ribble Valley for many years. She loved her work and continued to care for others until she retired at 67, ending her career with pride at Longridge Community Hospital.
Phil had a love of learning and was a voracious reader. Her home was her sanctuary, and she made it warm and welcoming with her amazing meals, scented candles and beautiful home. Whatever Phil set her mind to do, she did well. She loved a bit of glamour and music, and dancing gave her joy.
Her generosity and spirit will be remembered fondly by those closest to her, and her legacy will live on through her family and all those fortunate enough to have known her. Phil will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Family flowers only please. Donations are being received in Phil’s memory on behalf of Dementia UK.
