Memorial Book

Peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on 28th August 2025, Helen, aged 88 years, of Altham and formerly of Monifieth, Scotland.
The devoted wife of the late George, much-loved mum of Mari, Jacqui, George, Gillian, Andrew and Douglas, adored mother-in-law of Rod, Marco, Rosemary, Scott and Phillipa, cherished grandma of Gavin, Claire, Mark, Danielle, Nicole, Ryan, Ashleigh, Ben, Fiona, Rachel, Conor, Alex, Cora, Rowan, Lilia and Anya, and treasured great-grandma of Charlie, Willow, Alex and Harlow. A dear sister of Sandy and Christine, and a much-loved auntie, relative and friend to so many.

Helen was first and foremost a devoted family lady. Nothing brought her greater joy than time spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were truly at the heart of her world. She loved to hear about their adventures and achievements, whether big or small and was always proud beyond measure.

A lifelong member of Monifieth Parish Church, Helen gave so much of her time to others, helping with church activities, charity events and fundraising for Christian Aid. She also devoted herself to supporting young people as a Guide leader and running the local youth club, where she became loved and respected by many, creating many life long friendships. Helen was generous, kind and selfless, a true people magnet who drew others to her warmth. Once you were a friend of Helen’s, you were a friend for life. Her working life was varied and fulfilling. She held a supervisory role at M & S, ran her own local grocery store, and later worked as an Auxiliary Nurse, a position she took to naturally. She was well loved by colleagues and patients alike, remembered for her caring nature and gentle spirit.

In her later years, Helen moved to Altham, Lancashire, where she became a much-valued member of St James’ Church and the Mothers’ Union, making many new friends. She especially enjoyed days out and lunches with Christine, filled with chatter and laughter.

Helen was dearly loved and will be deeply missed, but she leaves behind a legacy of kindness, warmth and generosity that will be remembered with love and affection always.

Family flowers only, please. Donations in Helen’s memory are being received on behalf of Cancer Research UK. You can make a donation by clicking the ‘Make A Donation’ button, or there will also be a donation box available at the Church, alternatively you can post in to the funeral home.

    Mrs Winter.
A brilliant mum to the big Winter family. All of you so proud and rightly so.
Always kind to me and appreciated my close friendship with Dougie spanning 48 years since primary 1 at Grange School, Monifieth. I’ve so many great memories of Helen. From answering the phone (532010) and bellowing “DOUGIEEEEE” up the stairs to being one of the first on the scene at the birth of my and Angie’s first son of three. She was so happy for us and held little Angus with real love and pride in the hospital ward. I’ll miss her on Facebook commenting in a jovial fashion to pictures I’ve posted of my kids, myself, recent holiday in Italy and of course my dog. Helen was the best. We all know it and we all loved her very much.

Dear Helen, such a lovely person who I have known most of my life. I used to pop over for a chat when we were across the road in Rattray St. and was always made welcome. Even with having six of her own children Helen helped others. She looked after my wee sister one day when our wee dog died as I had to go to work and our Mum was at work. My sister had been off school not well, but Helen took care of her until Mum came home at the risk of her kids catching whatever illness my sister had? When I worked in the office of the fruit market I was able to get fruit for Helen at cost price….a box of apples and a box of oranges lasted a week. Luckily I got a lift home from my work and he carried the boxes up to Helen. You will be so missed by all the family and your friends. We were lucky to have you in your lives. Xx
