Loving mum and grandma

On 16th July peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family Irene aged 84 years of Clayton-le-Moors. The devoted wife of the late Jim, loving mum of Michael, cherished grandma of Matthew, Amanda and Michelle, great-grandma of Ethan, Ellie, Olivia and Harrison and dear sister of Kathleen and also a good friend to many.
Irene started her working life at the age of fourteen as a housemaid in the south and became a silver service waitress before returning to work at Rist Wires, Oswaldtwistle. She married her husband Jim in 1956 and enjoyed a happy marriage. Irene loved the sun and always looked forward to her holidays abroad for some relaxation, she also enjoyed many happy holidays in Blackpool with her family. A bingo fanatic who loved to get together with her pals for a game of bingo and could often be found calling the bingo numbers. A fantastic cook all Irene’s family always looked forward to delicious meals.

Former chairwoman of Padiham lady farmers

On 17th July 2016 peacefully at the Hollies Care Home surrounded by her loving family Dorothy aged 87 years of Altham. The devoted and loving wife of the late Tom Alexander, much loved mum of Janet, John Russell and Judith, dear mother-in-law of Steven, cherished nan of Justina, Alex, Jessica, Courtney, Emily and great-nan of Beth.

Dorothy started her woking life at Oaklea post office at the age of fourteen years and went on to work in the offices at Platt’s. She later worked part time on the family farm and raised her children. A keen dancer and former chairwoman of the Padiham lady farmers. Dorothy loved to have all her family and friends together for a celebration and would always host a wonderful Christmas party. It was on trip to the Isle of Man that she met her husband Tom Alexander and they enjoyed  a wonderful sixty years marriage together. Dorothy was a life long member of Huncoat Methodist church.

Devoted and loving family man

On 9th July 2016 suddenley at his home Alan aged 89 years of Read. The devoted husband of Sally, much loved dad of Alan and Shirley, dear father-in-law of Iolanda and James, cherished granddad of Hayley, Samantha, Sandy, Daniel, Catherine, Sarah, great-granddad of Florence, Alex, Elliot, Johnny, Andie, Finlay and also a dear relative and a good friend to many. 
A former miner in the pits for twenty years and later a post man for Royal Mail for over thirty years until his retirement. A keen sportsman who enjoyed football, darts and snooker and a long time member of Read Bowling club and former member of the Clarence darts team in Blackburn. Alan loved the sun and always looked forward to his twice yearly trips to Spain and Malta for a two weeks of rest and relaxation in the sunshine. A devoted family man who loved to put others first, Alan and his beloved wife Sally celebreated sixty five years of happy marraige this year with a close family gathering. Alan loved to feed the birds and would count how many daily visitors he had to his many bird feeders.

Much loved mum and grandma

On 10th July 2016 peacefully in a private care home, Grace aged 90 years of Clayton-le-Moors. The dearly loved wife of the late Jimmy, loving mum of Marlene,Gillian and the late Ian, loving step-mum of Paul, dear mother-in-law of Stephen, David and Wilma, Loving grandma of Danielle, Leighton, Nicola, Anthony, Lee, Gary, Steven, Ian, Tom, Sarah, Michelle and Charlene also a special great-grandma and auntie to many.
Grace worked at Priestly’s for several years and always looked forward to the Friday afternoon sing along with her daughter Marlene and her work pals. She later bought a caravan in Morecambe and spent the summer seasons working part time and enjoying visits from family and friends. A very kind and loving lady who always put others before herself. She could often be found boarding a coach for one her many tours with her best friend Nellie Brindle, they together enjoyed trips to Lourdes and Scotland including the Edinburgh Tattoo, and later holidays were spent abroad with her daughter Gillian and her family.  She enjoyed taking part in Bingo and Dominoes with her friends at Willow Close, in her younger years Grace loved to sit back and relax in her chair reading a good book or knitting her grandchildren new cardigans.

Proud family man

On 3rd July 2016 peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family David aged 69 years of Rishton.  The devoted and much loved husband of Margaret, loving dad of Jeffrey, Pauline, John, Graham and Ian, respected father-in-law of Lisa, Keith, Sally, Patricia and Natalie, deeply loved granddad of Jonathan, Daniel, Ryan, Matthew, Thomas, Samuel, Joshua, Christopher, Rachel, Jack, Hayley, Ebony, Benjamin, Oliver, Ruby, Freddie and Jude, also a dear brother, brother-in-law, uncle and nephew.

David was a proud family man, he gave his life to his children and loved his grandchildren. A retired factory worker, he enjoyed his life and lived it his way.  David was stubborn but clever, he always had a rainy day fund for holidays and emergencies, he was always willing to help out his family but kept a black book to ensure everything was paid back in full.  David enjoyed reading and watching football especially Blackburn Rovers which he took his sons to watch as children.  He enjoyed watching cricket and playing for fun, he was well known locally.  In his younger years the family would holiday in Rhyl and Fleetwood, later they would holiday worldwide, however he still enjoyed spending weekends in a static caravan at Cala Gran.  David and Margaret shared the same birthday, and also celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary on 19th February 2016 with a family and friends celebration at the Free Gardens Club with an Abba Tribute band.
