On 5th August 2016 peacefully at Belvedere Care Home, Accrington and formerly of Lime Street, Great Harwood. Derek aged 86 years. The loving husband of the late Eileen, beloved father of Julie and the late Stephen, proud and cherished grandfather of Allan, Mark, Liam and Siobhan and a dear great-grandfather. Bbrother of the late Brenda, a treasured uncle and a good friend to many. 

Derek started work at the age of fourteen as a Barber in Accrington worked in Accrington. After he qualified, Derek went in to partnership and opened a Barber shop in Abbey Street. He became very well known and respected in the community. A selfless gentleman, Derek always put others first and enjoyed his charity work with the Accrington Lions and was a former president. In later years Derek was involved with Great Harwood Memorial Park and enjoyed giving his time to help raise funds to care for the park. He loved to travel and had many happy holidays travelling worldwide with his beloved late wife Eileen. Derek loved the outdoors too and could often be found enjoying a walk across Whalley Nabb.

Devoted family man and horse racing fanatic

On 7th August 2016 suddenly in hospital following a long illness, Andrew aged 50 years of Rishton. The devoted and much loved husband of Julia, adored dad and best friend of Isabel, son of Alf and the late Barbara, cherished son-in-law of Allan and Carol and dear brother-in-law of Samantha and Mark. Andrew was known as Alf to his many loyal and supportive friends and he will be greatly missed by them all.

Andrew was a self employed plumber and life long Burnley Football Club season ticket holder. He was a devoted family man and  loved nothing more than spending time with his wife and daughter. Together they travelled the world, enjoying fantastic holidays and creating many beautiful memories. Always on the go, Andrew liked to keep himself busy. He had created his very own model railway in his garage, where he would spend many happy hours. He and Isabel were avid shopping buddies. Andrew could often be seen with his beloved feline companion Winston following in his footsteps.

Former devoted nurse

On 7th August 2016 peacefully in The Hollies, Ann aged 84 years formerly of Church, Accrington. The dearly loved wife of the late Derwent, much loved Mum of Jean, Roseann, Edie, Martin and the late Mary and Winnie. Also a loved mother in law, Grandma and Great Grandma.

Ann was a carer and nurse at Calderstone for many years and retired from there in 1992. She was naturally caring and loved so much to look after others. She was efficient and organised and liked to be on the go. A devoted Mum, she adored being surrounded by her family. When she was a young girl, Ann enjoyed spending time on the family allotment. She and Derwent then had their own allotment and the children have many happy meomories of their time helping out there. A keen knitter, Ann made lovely garments for the children too when they were young. She loved to read the bible and the Seventh Day Adventist Church was a very big part of her life. She also enjoyed watching crime dramas on TV and medical programs too. Ann will be sadly missed by all her loving family.

Much loved son and brother

On 11th July 2016 peacefully in hospital, Andrew aged 28 years of Great Harwood. The dearly loved son of Marilyn and Michael, loving Dad of Hayden, much loved bother of Kirsty, Rebecca, Anthony, Mark and Chris and also a loved brother in law and Uncle. 


Andrew was much loved by all his family and was funny, warm and loving. He would play his heavy metal music at full volume as he danced around the house. His favourite bands were Kiss and Reckless Love. An avid Liverpool FC fan, Andrew would banter with his Mum who supports Man U. Nights out were enjoyed with Chantelle and Andrew loved going to the pub. He would spend hours watching TV with his Mum - Tipping Point and all the soaps. Andrew and his Mum would chat and put the world to rights and always enjoyed each others company. Andrew adored his sisters and always made them laugh. He called Kirsty 'Big Yo' and Becky 'Little Yo'.

Former Fire Officer & Devoted Family Man

Peacefully in East Lancs Hospice on 31st July 2016, Peter aged 64 years of Great Harwood.  The loving and much loved husband of Marian, devoted and loved dad of Dawn and Craig, loving father in law of Gareth and Anne, the very proud grandad of Luke, Alex, Caitlin, Finn, Zac, Phoebe and the late Darcey, dear brother of Jeff and sister in law Betty.

Peter served 9 year in the Royal Military Police, then later joined the Fire Brigade serving Lancashire. He then went on to become the Station Officer where he trained groups of Fire Fighters, making sure that things were done properly.  Peter appreciated a good crime or spy movie and also crime dramas and espionage on TV.  He also enjoyed watching rugby and golf.  Peter was very sociable and could often be found taking part in a pub quiz. He loved to go bird watching and loved visiting National Trust properties.  Peter was a devoted family man, to him family meant everything.
