Devoted carer and loving family lady

On 28th September 2016 in hospital Winnie aged 74 years of Clayton-le-Moors, formerly of Edinburgh.  The devoted wife of George, much loved mum of Jennifer, Deryck and Stephanie, cherished nana of Megan, Callum, George, Ellie, Harvey, Maya, Idris, little nana of Grace and Freya, dear sister of Edith.

Winnie was a naturally caring and hard working lady who was always happy to help anybody with anything.  Winnie worked as a nurse on the children's ward at Edinburgh Children's Hospital, later as an inspector at Whisky Barn, and moved to Clayton-le-Moors in 1989 where she worked as a deputy matron before retiring due to ill health. Winnie was particularly family orientated.  She was very proud nana who loved spending time with her grand children and attending family gatherings and would always put on a new year's day party. Born in Edinburgh, the youngest of 8 daughters, she always kept in close contact even spending her holidays visiting family members.  In her spare time she also enjoyed a game of bingo with her friend.

Peacefully in hospital on 14th September 2016 Phillip aged 68 years of Oswaldtwistle and formerly of Accrington. The much loved dad of Andrew and Alan, father-in-law of Carolyn and Rebecca, cherished granddad of Beth, Dom, Kara, Kayleigh, Jacob and Caiden and a dear brother to Richard and Donald
A well known face in the Accrington area Phillip loved to socialise and could often be found chatting away with his many friends in the local pubs. He loved gardening and enjoyed getting on the bowling green for a game of crown green Bowls with his team mates. Phillip spent his working life at British Aerospace before taking early retirement. A proud granddad who will be sadly missed.

Loving man who devoted his time to others

On Monday 12th September 2016 peacefully at Pendle Community Hospital Ron aged 84 years. The loving and devoted husband of Marjorie, much loved dad of Caroline, Patricia, John and the late Stephen and a treasured granddad and great-granddad.

Ron completed his National Service and was based in Germany. Retuning to civilian life, he started work for Royal Mail working for many years as a postman both in Blackburn and Croydon. Ron became a well known and respected figure in his working community. He loved holidays and always looked forward to his trip to Whitby with his family for some rest and relaxation and in later life he enjoyed many trips abroad with family members. Ron was a kind man and loved to give his time to others. He helped many children over the years by welcoming them in to his family fold through fostering with the Church of England Children’s Society. One of life's givers, Ron also gave his spare time to making poppy’s for the Royal British Legion. 
‘Ron will be greatly missed by all who knew him.’

Local well know farmer

On the 13th September 2016 suddenly at his home following a long illness Brian aged 75 years of Rishton. The much loved dad of Annie and Lindsey, dear father-in-law of Darren and Simon, cherished grandad of Joe, Harris and Ruby and great-grandad of Aubrey, dear brother of Barbara, brother-in-law of Grahame and a good friend to many.
Brian was born into a farming family and followed the family tradition throughout his life. He also worked as butcher and slaughter man. Away from his work Brian enjoyed fishing and especially enjoyed Salmon fishing and loved to cook his catch of the day. His fishing took him to Ireland, Scotland and all over the UK. He even fished in Norway. Brian loved holidays and in his younger years he would spend them relaxing with his family, later discovering his beloved Thailand where he would visit several times each year. A enthusiastis gardener, many happy hours were spent tending to his much loved flowers and growing his very own delicious fruit and vegetables. Brian always had a beautiful display of Orchids in his home. He was a loveable character with a ready smile and always had a joke at the ready. Brian will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

On 4th September 2016 peacefully at Northwood Nursing Home Harry aged 91 years of Rishton. The dearly loved husband of Mavis, loving dad of Adele and Andrew, dear father-in-law of Stephen and Maria, cherished grandpa of Laura, Thomas, Hayden and Tilly and treasured brother of Marion and Jack. 

Harry was former education officer for Ribble Valley and Hyndburn .He enjoyed his work and made many good friends with whom he remained in contact with following his retirement. He was an active member of St Peter & St Paul’s Church, Rishton, serving on the PCC and was a sidesman for many years. He also served as a school governor. Harry had also been a former member of St Michael’s Church, Blackburn in his younger years. He met his wife Mavis at a dance at King Georges Hall and they enjoyed a wonderful and happy fifty-two years of marriage together, celebrating their Golden Wedding Anniversary with a family party at the Gibbon Bridge Hotel. Family holidays were spent around the UK and later Harry and Mavis travelled abroad for their holidays, enjoying many cruises and they always looked forward to some rest and relaxation in their favourite country Cyprus. Harry was always smartly dressed  and could often be seen pottering about the house and garden carrying out his odd jobs fully dressed in his shirt and tie. He was a proud dad & grandpa and adored the family visits. Harry will be sadly missed by all his family and many friends and will be remembered for his life of dedication and commitment to the things he loved.
