Dr David Goodall

A well-respected Consultant Doctor

Dr David Goodall was born on the 6th August 1939 in Liverpool. He was the eldest of three sons born into a working class family living in the docklands of Liverpool. David harboured ambitions of becoming a doctor and a missionary from a very young age and his dedication to his studies, encouraged by his mother, led him to study medicine at Liverpool University. David then worked as a junior Doctor around the hospitals of Liverpool. Once he had finished his initial training in 1967 David, his young wife Jacqui and there two year old son Paul left Liverpool for rural India to work for the Methodist Missionary Society. For the next 13 years David was the Medical Superintendent in charge of a hospital in Sarenga, West Bengal State, India which serviced a huge population in a 50 mile radius. The demands on him were significant and challenging but his experiences left a deep bond with the place and he continued to play a role there until his recent passing.  David returned to Liverpool in 1980 with his three sons and daughter and practised as a senior Registrar in the city before moving to Queens Park Hospital and the Royal Blackburn Hospital as a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecolgist in 1986. David and his family settled in Great Harwood and became active members of the Methodist church in the town. David retired working for the NHS in 2004, but in his time as a Consultant continued to involve himself in India making several trips with medical aid. He had also developed a working relationship with the Tropical School of Medicine in Liverpool. With all the knowledge and experience he had gained upon retirement he travelled to a number of developing countries in his later years assisting with training programmes, particularly to Bangladesh. Right up until his death he continued to help run a colposcopy clinic two days at week at Chorley Hospital.  The family intend to honour David’s life by raising money for the hospital in Sarenga.
David leaves a wife, Jacqui, four children Paul, Mark, Neil and Shona and 12 grandchildren.
Family flowers only by request.  Donations may be made to KSN Sarenga Mission Hospital
