Peacefully at her home on Wednesday 11th January 2017 surrounded by her loving family Joyce aged 90 years of Accrington. The devoted wife of the late Dr Fenton and a much loved mother and grandmother.

On 7th January 2017 peacefully in hospital, Peter aged 73 years of Bolton, formerly of Rishton and New Longton.  A much loved brother of David and Kathleen, brother-in-law of Isobel and Paul, and uncle to Catriona and Michael.

Peter had several jobs in his working life including being an electrician, a driving instructor and a driving test examiner.  He went to college in Germany and liked it there so much that he stayed for 7 years and that is where his love for german classical music grew.  He also enjoyed his time as a truck driver and travelled to locations such as Saudi Arabia and Syria.  Peter always enjoyed his food but never cooked a meal in his life, preferring the ease of a ready meal.  In his spare time Peter enjoyed a flutter on the horses and bird watching.  He was also a big animal lover, especially dogs and he enjoyed walking them.

Devoted family lady and amazing cook

On 29th December 2016 in hospital, Fortified by the Rites of the Holy Mother Church , Maria aged 88 years of Clayton-le-Moors.  The devoted wife of the late Peter, much loved and loving mum of Geoffrey, Graham, Barry, David and Christine, dear mother-in-law of Lynda, Emma, Vicky and Ian, and cherished grandma to John, Leanne, Charmain, Matthew-James and Matthew-Peter, George, Arthur and great-grandma of Evan, dear sister of Freda, Franz and Gerhard, and also a dear relative and friend.

Maria was born in Germany in 1928 and moved to England in 1949 with a friend to find work and she began working in a textile mill in Todmorden.  She then became a full-time mum and later worked at Asda as a checkout operator and retired from her job as checkout supervisor in 1988.  Following her retirement, Maria worked as a part-time cleaner at St. Mary's school and was a member of St. Mary's RC Church.

Maria loved cooking and feeding her family and was well-known for her famous goulash.  She was also very house proud and kept the house immaculate at all times.  Maria was a keen sport follower, especially football, ski-ing and motor racing and always kept up-to-date. 

Maria was a devoted family lady who enjoyed visiting family in Germany and as a proud grandma also looked forward to visits from grand-children.

Former Miss Mullards

On 22nd December 2016 suddenly at her home Rita aged 74 years of Clayton-le-Moors.  Much loved mum of Colin, Carol, Christine, Catherine, Christopher, dear mother-in-law and cherished nanna and loving great-grandma, and special friend to the late Eric Chamley, dearly loved sister of Lionel, Toni, Colin, Jane and also a much loved relative and friend to many.

In her younger years Rita worked at Mullards won the title Miss Mullards.  She later worked at Glistens, as a supervisor, from where she retired early.  Rita enjoyed power boat racing and was involved in the rescue team.  She also loved watching Formula One racing. She was an avid reader of historical books and crime thrillers and she enjoyed watching the tv and listening to classical music.  Rita had her first tattoo and her ears pierced at the age of 60.  In her younger years Rita enjoyed taking annual holidays in Blackpool and later in life she liked to travel abroad to Spain and Turkey.   In her spare time, Rita could often be found knitting children's clothes and school jumpers and even taught her grandchildren to knit.  She doted on her grandchildren and looked forward to her family get togethers.  A lovely lady who always put others first.  

No black clothes by family request.

Devoted family lady

Peacefully surrounded by her loving family on 29th December 2016 Hilda aged 100 years formerly of Great Harwood.  The devoted wife of the late Wilfred, loving mum of the late Barrie and Stella, cherished nan of Susan and Ian, very special great-nanna to Ian, Bernadette, Jack, Beth, great-great-nanna to Alfie, and a special person to Rob, Colin and June and a dear relative to many.

Having been a District Nurse around the Hyndburn area, Hilda was a popular and well-known face.  She loved her work and was most devoted to her patients.  Even when she retired, she continued to care for her friends and family right to the end.  Hilda was a devoted family lady who helped in any way she could to support them and make their lives easier.  She would prepare family meals whilst they ran the family farm. Hilda was also a proud nanna and great-nanna.  Her life revolved around her family and she always looked forward to family celebrations .  She had a great appetite for both food and life and loved to entertain with her many tales.
